Campaigns

Upsurge campaigns turn storefront context into customer-facing experiences. All campaign types are site-scoped and share a draft-to-active lifecycle, but they render and measure different outcomes.

Choose a campaign

ProductBest forPrimary measurement
RecommendationsProduct discovery, cross-sell, upsell, and personalized rankingImpressions, clicks, assisted conversions, assisted value
OverlaysOffers, forms, announcements, quizzes, cart recovery, and embedded recommendationsViews, clicks, dismissals, submissions, assisted conversions
ChatbotsGuided discovery, product questions, discounts, and qualified handoffOpens, messages, tool outcomes, goals, handoffs, conversions

Use Experiments to compare variants of any of these, and Workflows to launch them from events.

The Campaigns hub

Dashboard → Campaigns lists every overlay, recommendation, and chatbot campaign in one table.

  • Filter by status tab (All, Active, Paused, Draft, Archived), product, and website.
  • Select Create Campaign and choose Workflow, Recommend, Overlay, or Chatbot to open that product's editor.
  • Use a row's menu to Edit, Pause, or Archive a campaign. Activate a campaign from its own editor.
  • Select Set up a goal to have Upsurge propose a set of campaigns for you.

Plan campaigns from a goal

Goal plans turn a business goal into a reviewed set of campaigns and workflows.

  1. Select Set up a goal on the Campaigns hub.
  2. Choose the Website and describe the Website goal, or pick a suggestion such as Recover cart abandonment, Grow my email list, Help shoppers discover products, or Improve customer support.
  3. Select Build my plan. Upsurge analyzes the site and drafts a plan.
  4. In Review your goal plan, check each item's readiness (Ready, Draft only, or Blocked), campaign name, Why this campaign, and Expected impact. Clear Include for items you do not want.
  5. Optionally import images found on your website with Import selected images, or describe changes and select Revise plan.
  6. Choose Create as Draft or Active, then select Apply selected recommendations.

A plan can create overlays, recommendations, chatbots, and workflows from built-in templates. If AI planning is unavailable, the plan says AI planning used the rules-based fallback. Review every created item, especially any created as Active, before relying on it.

Shared lifecycle

  • Draft — editable but not eligible for public configuration.
  • Active — eligible when the site, target, trigger, and runtime conditions match.
  • Paused — retained but not served.
  • Archived — removed from ordinary active work. Duplicating an overlay or chatbot creates a new draft.

Publishing a campaign does not bypass runtime targeting. Always test on the exact site, URL, and device conditions that the active campaign expects.

Launch standard

  1. Confirm the site SDK and baseline events.
  2. Create from a template, a goal plan, or a blank configuration.
  3. Define content, runtime behavior, and a single primary goal.
  4. Narrow targeting intentionally; estimate reach when intent activation is used.
  5. Preview desktop and mobile behavior.
  6. Activate the campaign.
  7. Verify the public config request and first lifecycle event.
  8. Measure with a visible attribution scope in Analytics.
Start narrow

Launch to one site and a small, explainable audience before layering page, device, location, audience, intent, profile, and trigger conditions together.
